Whats new in Cd Scan v5.5 28/11/94
new menu options added:
Main Menu:
Command Prompt option gives you a temporary command prompt for executing DOS
commands.
Search Menu:
Locate tracks with Lyrics will search for all tracks with lyrics.
New Search Results Menu option offers options to view the search results,
print the results and calculate statistics on all cds located during a search.
The print options are similar to those offered on the print menu, i.e. print
search index, all cds located during the search and comment summary.
The browse screen offers a new option, alt+x to export data which may be
imported via the Import Option on the Utilities Menu. Results of a search or
the complete catalogue may be exported. You will be asked for the drive and
path (including a trailing backslash) to which the merge files should be
copied.
Print Menu:
names of options have been changed and a new option for printing a comment
summary of the catalogue has been added.
The View Text file option has been replaced by Edit Text File. The cdsed
Environment variable must be set for this.
Text files must be a maximum of 64k otherwise the file viewer (which has been
limited to 64k files) will truncate the file.
Utilities Menu:
Backup Option has been added to create a backup of your catalogue on a
specified drive and in a specified directory.
The Cd Id code will now automatically be generated if one is not added. These id
codes are just generated from the cd count.
Word Wrap is now supported when editing or adding a comment.
a bug has been fixed which caused data to be lost if the computer crashed or
was switched off before Cd Scan was exited. Note: exiting Cd Scan is still
good practise, in fact, it is recommended that all applications be exited
properly before switching off your computer.
The demo has been restricted to only 20 cds and 10 tracks per cd to motivate
registration as my previous generosity was not successful in doing so. The
price of the registered version has been increased to $100 Australian. Your
registration will encourage further development of this software.
Note: due to the restriction on the number of cds and tracks accommodated, you
should not use this demo with a previously created catalogue containing more
than 20 cds or containing cds with more than 10 tracks otherwise the program
may malfunction. To overcome this, copy your original data files to a safe
place and then delete all cds with more than ten tracks. Alternatively, just
enter a few test cds to evaluate the program.
Whats new in Cd Scan v5.2 12/2/94
You may now jump into your favorite editor to add or edit lyrics files
from within Cd Scan provided there is enough memory to do so. To use
this feature, you must set the CDSED environment variable to specify the
path and name of your editor. You can do this in your autoexec.bat file
or just from the DOS prompt by typeing something like: set
cdsed=c:\utils\editor.exe
When you press Alt+e from the display screen, there is a new list of
options. You can either use the mouse to select an option or press the
capitalized letter (which is the initial letter), e.g. press l to
add/edit a lyrics file for the current track. If no lyrics file exists,
your editor will be started and the name of the track, artist and cd
will be automatically entered for you. You just need to add the lyrics
and save and quit as you usually would and you will be returned to the
display screen. If you have not set the CDSED environment variable, you
will not be able to edit lyrics from within Cd Scan. If you incorrectly
set the variable you will probably get the message "file not found". If
there is insufficient memory to run your editor you will also be
notified. You will need about 615k to run an editor with a catalog of
4000 cds. (registered version only.)
Note: You cannot use the dos 5/6 edit.com since it starts the qbasic.exe
program which requires heaps of memory.
A bug has been fixed which caused the program to crash if you tried to
merge catalogues when the initial catalogue was sorted by id code and
there was an identical code in the catalogue being merged.
A bug has been fixed which caused a lyrics file to be lost if a reorder
was cancelled. Actually, the file was renamed to tmp.lyr. If a reorder
is cancelled then no renaming of lyrics files takes place.
Online manual updated to reflect new features.
File viewer restricted to handle files up to 1 megabyte instead of 4 to
save memory.
Whats new in Cd Scan v5.11 27/1/94
You may now sort the index by
the Cd Id code. Tab-swap windows has been replaced with Tab-change order
in the Browse screen. This now changes the sort order from Artist to
Title to Cd Id code.
Note: If your cds have codes like 1a, 1b, 10a, etc, you will need to
change them to 01a, 01b, etc so that 01a will be sorted before 10a. You
can do this from the Display screen by pressing Alt-e then i (for id)
then editing the id. All lyrics files will be appropriately renamed
automatically.
When you edit an Id while the index is sorted by id code, it will be
resorted when you return to the Main Menu and then select Browse again
(as when the index is sorted by artist or title and you edit one of
those fields).
Improved cursor scrolling in file viewer so that the left and right
arrow keys cause the cursor to go to the next or previous line or page
as appropriate.
Whats new in Cd Scan v5.02 7/12/93
Bug fixes in upgrade utility:
v5.00 upgrade would not upgrade files properly, resulting in loss of
comments. This bug extended to actual program if cd contained 99 tracks.
This bug is now fixed.
Another inconsistency in data files was found and corrected concerning
various artist cds. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have
caused.
Contradiction in manual and order.frm files concerning distribution
rules for Budget Edition now corrected.
Whats new in Cd Scan v5.00 25/11/93
File format changed yet again to facilitate keeping track of which
tracks have lyrics files. See upgrade.doc to upgrade from a previous
version to v5.00
When performing a search by track name or time, or if the cd is a
various artist cd, artist name, the first track fitting the search
criteria will be highlighted when the cd is displayed. You may then jump
to the next match by pressing F2, or to the previous match by pressing
F3. This feature allows you to display the next or previous cd without
returning to the browse screen.
Tracks with lyrics files will now be indicated by an X (or a *)
appearing in the right margin.
When a cd's contents are edited or the catalog is optimised, Cd Scan
will check for lyrics files and update all its links so that any new
lyrics files that have been created, or any that have been deleted will
be correctly indicated onscreen.
The statistics screen now tells you how many tracks have lyrics files
linked to them.
Note the new limitation for the Budget Edition, i.e. 75 cds.
What's new in Cd Scan v4.21 5/9/93

New colour schemes are now selectable via the Utilities Menu, including

editor to create a text file containing the lyrics for any tracks and
have them displayed when the track is selected.
An extra field for a cd identification code has been added (this is used
when locating lyric files as part of the filename).
You may go to a cd with a particular id code from the browse screen by
pressing f2 and entering the id code.
The user Manual may now be viewed from any menu.
Ctrl+w will now delete to the end of a word when editing text.
When editing the comment, you may use Ctrl+l to delete the current line
and Ctrl+y to yank it back again. This may be useful when moving a line
of text.
When editing filenames etc, moving the cursor with the arrow keys or
home/end before typing will allow you to edit the default text. If you
just start typing, the new text will completely replace the old. (this
is relevant everywhere except in the comment box.)
Print
Menu options rearranged as follows: Option 4 is now View Text File,
Option 5 is now Print Text File. Text files will now be printed more
efficiently.
note: to determine the output, enter prn or a normal filename when
prompted for a name.
A left margin is no longer output when pasting tracks or creating lists.
Rebuilding of a missing or corrupted index file is now automatically
performed when Cd Scan is run.
Significant speed improvements when searching, calculating stats, etc.
Warning beeps added when errors occur, e.g. file not found, etc.

Numbers have been placed on the main menu to aid with selecting via hot keys.
Cd Scan now accommodates cds with various artists.
(Use the # when entering the main artist.)
Tracks may now be added, deleted and reordered.
Cd Scan may now be run in "Locked" mode to prevent unauthorized
modification of data via the -l command line option
You must use the -m command line option to run Cd Scan in Monochrome
mode
You may now re-sort/delete/edit etc while browsing the search index.
Entry of times has been simplified. The colon and leading zeros are
omitted.
Alt+a for add etc in the display screen have been
replaced by the following: Space bar will mark a track for pasting and
add its time to the time box, Space bar again will unmark the marked
track and delete its time from the time box, Alt+space bar will invert
the current status of all tracks, i.e. if none are marked, all will be
marked and the total of all tracks will be added to what is in the time
box, if one is marked, it will be unmarked and subtracted while all
other tracks will be marked and there times added. Del will clear the
time box and unmark all tracks. Alt+e is still used to edit a field.
Print output from Print Menu slightly changed
Centres page headers properly.
Other minor tidying up to make neater and more efficient.
More intelligent guess at filenames.
Bug fix:

3 hours and minutes
instead of:
3 hours and 0 minutes
being displayed.
